Houseplants and Hormone Balance🌱
Can houseplants help balance your hormones, or are they just “decoration”? As you may know, eating lots of plants can help balance hormones, but does surrounding yourself with lots of plants impact hormone health? Don’t expect miracles, but houseplants may promote hormone health by improving indoor air quality. If you’re wondering why indoor air quality would influence hormone health, keep reading.
Indoor Air Quality and Hormones🌱
Many household items and products contain chemicals that negatively impact indoor air quality and interfere with your hormones. These chemicals are called endocrine disruptors and they are found in things like fragrances, cleaners, scented candles, air fresheners, soap, sanitizers, etc… Adhesives and flame retardants often found in furniture, mattresses, and electronics, are other sources of endocrine disruptors and contributors to poor indoor air quality.

Educate yourself and be selective🌱
It may surprise you to learn that many personal care and beauty products contain endocrine disruptors as well. Household and personal care products are often overlooked when dealing with hormone health issues, but they can have an impact. To help protect your hormone health, educate yourself on ingredients and be selective about the products and furniture that you bring into your home. Be especially mindful of what you use on your body.

Being around & taking care of plants promotes feelings of wellbeing, and anything that helps you relax will also help your hormones.
Protect your indoor air quality and relax🌱
The best way to promote indoor air quality is to limit your exposure by being careful about the products you bring into your home. Just say “NO” to products that are harmful to your health. Proper ventilation, air purifiers, and houseplants, also help. As an added bonus, being around and taking care of plants promotes feelings of wellbeing, and anything that helps you relax will also help your hormones. Plus, they look super pretty and make your living space cozier! So I would say “yes” houseplants may help balance your hormones. I’m not saying they have a major effect, but even if it’s just a very minor effect, every little bit helps. Especially these days, when we’re being bombarded from all directions.
Limiting exposure, proper ventilation, air purifiers, and houseplants are all ways to improve indoor air quality.
