Does the “perfect” boiled egg recipe really exist?
There are many recipes for boiled eggs, but this is my favorite. My philosophy is this: if you find a method that works for you, why mess with it? I prefer medium yolks, the trouble is, they are the most difficult to achieve. Even restaurants struggle to get them right. Thankfully, I have figured out what I think is the best way to ensure perfect medium yolks every time. I swear by the ice bath method. This method allows for more precision and makes eggs easier to peel. A perfectly cooked medium yolk is a thing of beauty. Boil some up using this method and impress your loved ones the next time you host brunch.
Perfect Medium Boiled Egg Recipe
- Bring water to a boil.
- Gently add eggs to boiling water using a large spoon.
- Boil eggs for 7 to 7 & 1/2 minutes, depending on the size of the eggs.
- Prepare an ice bath while the eggs are cooking. An ice bath is a bowl of water with some ice cubes in it.
- Once eggs are done
cooking , remove them from the boiling water and place them in the ice bath. - Let eggs rest in the ice bath until the ice is melted, or mostly melted.
- Crack and peel eggs. If eggs are difficult to peel, run them under cold water and try again.
That’s all there is to it! This method should have you boiling picture-perfect eggs like a pro in no time. I love adding medium boiled eggs to avocado toast, ramen bowls, brunch bowls, and hearty salads. If you haven’t tried dipping sweet potato fries in jammy egg yolks yet, I highly recommend you try it.
